When I was a kid, my mom would make this comforting stew all the time. Iâd catch a glimpse of her draining the chickpeas, then sneak into the kitchen to grab a taste of the golden salsita or what I called âthe little sauce,â the broth of the stew. âKarla!â sheâd exclaim, shooing me out of the kitchen. âSalte de ahÃ!â Whether I ate it by itself or drizzled it over white rice, that stew always tasted like comfort. It wasnât until later that I learned that chickpeas were loaded with great stuff like magnesium, zinc, and fiber. Sometimes kids do know whatâs good for them!
